Hawaii Car Insurance

Car Insurance » Hawaii

Each driver who is going to drive in the state of Hawaii legally must have the minimum level of liability coverage which covers bodily injury and damage to personal property as demanded by the state. These minimum requirements are put in place to protect conscientious drivers from the actions of a few careless drivers and in order to avoid being on the wrong side of the law it is important that you know what the state’s requirements are.

Hawaii state law demands the minimum bodily injury liability coverage of $20,000 per person in an accident and $40,000 bodily injury liability per accident. The minimum of $10,000 for damage to personal property is also required.

These numbers only outline what the state’s minimums are and although they must be met in order to keep you on the right side of the law they are by no means the ideal amount of coverage for any driver on the road. Ideally you should have enough liability coverage to cover most of the damages without putting your assets at risk or having to pay out of pocket in the event of an accident. You should also think about getting some sort of coverage for yourself also.

Remember that this minimum coverage will only provide for victims of an accident if you are at fault. If you sustain damages to yourself, your car and if there are other people in your car at the time of the accident you will have to take care of these expenses yourself. Adding uninsured/ under-insured cover to protect yourself from drivers who drive without or too little insurance, collision and/or comprehensive insurance might seem like it is too much but in the event of a major accident or natural disaster such as heavy rains leading to flooding for which Hawaii is known you will be happy that you did.
