Idaho Car Insurance
Car Insurance » Idaho
As with other states Idaho has taken measures to ensure that safe drivers are protected from those that are reckless on the roads. To do this they have put in place a minimum liability coverage for all drivers who want to be able to drive legally in the state. Idaho has a 25/50/15 auto insurance policy which translates to a minimum of $25,000 liability coverage for bodily injuries for one person, $50,000 liability coverage for bodily injury per accident and $15,000 for damage to personal property.
The state also mandates that car insurance agents offer drivers the opportunity to purchase uninsured/ under-insured coverage. Although agents must offer it you have the option to decline the offer but you must confirm that you declined in writing. This measure is the state’s way of trying to get safe drivers the added bit of protection that they need against uninsured and under insured drivers in the event of an accident.
Bear in mind that even if you meet the state’s requirements for coverage this would probably not be enough to cover all the damages if you were found at fault in an accident. You should also be aware that this coverage will not protect you but the other driver in the event of an accident since it only comes into play when you are found liable. Too many drivers find out the hard way how little this covers when an accident takes place.
Consider getting some coverage for yourself, either collision or comprehensive coverage so that you can have some piece of mind if you are involved in an accident. There are a number of ways that you can decrease the cost of the policy so research all your options. Finally to avoid traffic citations carry your valid auto insurance certificate in your vehicle at all times to present as proof if you are ever pulled over.
